GAY RIGHTS PARADE IN NEW DELHI, KOLKATA AND BANGALORE
In the first ever instance of an open assertion of rights of gays, lesbians and transexuals in India, Gay Rights Parades were taken out simultaneously in New Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore. This was soon followed by the Queer Azadi Rally in Mumbai in August 2008. Given Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code that criminalises homosexuality, this was a big step for the gay rights movement to publicly assert their rights.
